Mint is a mouthful! It’s one of the most popular flavors in use across the globe as well as across our shelves. Though it’s familiar, it immediately transports our pallets and imaginations. We’re taking you beyond just peppermint candies and chocolate you might be familiar with to explore mint teas, sauces, jellies, extracts and more!!
Mint as an herb thrives near pools of water, lakes, rivers and cool moist spots in the shade. Mint can grow in all kinds of conditions year round. Mint grows fast and extends its reach across surfaces quickly. Due to this speedy growth, you can purchase one plant and it will provide you all the mint that you will ever need! If you are growing it on your own, be careful as the mint can take over over plants. Growing it alone is the best way to go.
Most people don’t know that Mint actually has 13-18 different species. Some are more common than others such as peppermint and spearmint. Peppermint is actually a hybrid mint created from spearmint and watermint. It has since been introduced to the wild and you can find it growing naturally in Europe and North America. The US actually produces 70% of the world’s peppermint supply! Spearmint is native to Europe and Asia but has since spread out into other regions of the world. Spearmint is one of the most popular flavors of the world. They even found it in an Egyptian tomb dating back to 1000 BC!
