The world of wine, or at least this little corner of it, works at a breakneck pace at times, and others, well let’s just say you can get a lot done in the time it takes to draw a breath. Around here at Jungle Jim’s however, it’s usually the former. I don’t realize what day it is half the time it whizzes by so fast sometimes around here, but how hard can it really be to work in the wine business, really?
Actually, quite a bit.
One of the many perks of the biz that has been my calling for almost half my existence is of course tasting new stuff. And one of my favorite people in the biz, Kerri – Ms. Breeze if your nasty – dropped in recently with a grab bag of goodies:
Sbragia Family Vineyards Chardonnay Home Ranch 2014. Well-made, elegant Chardonnay from California’s Dry Creek Valley. Pretty persimmon and Bartlett pear notes with hints of white spice, citrus, and vanilla.
Matchbook Cabernet Sauvignon Dunnigan Hills 2014. Blended with a bit of Petit Verdot and Petite Sirah, this full-bodied red gives you hints of chocolate, dark berries, medium-roast coffee and vanilla. Good grip too.
Double Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills 2014. Loads of oak spice, blackberry, leather and cherry skin lead you into a full-bodied red, big and bold enough to satisfy those California red fans.
Gamble Family Vineyards Heritage Sites Red Napa Valley 2013. Sweet, brambly fruit mixes it up with oak spice, black pepper and vanilla notes to give you a terrific, full-bodied red.
Dourom Tons de Dourom Red Douro 2014. Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. A lot of red and black berry fruits, dried herbs, black pepper, and strawberry jam – this is one heck of a value!
I laugh at my friends and family that think that this is all I do on any given day – drink wine. Sure I get to do it; it’s part of the job, but most of the day it’s like any other job – putting out all those proverbial fires that arise every day, making customers happy, trying to keep the store from looking empty, and above all else – hustle and flow, making those dollars roll in for the boss. Stack ‘em high and watch ‘em fly!
Still, a sip in-between wineslinging ain’t too bad.
