Sidestepping the usual bit of the inebriant diarist’s antics for a moment, I wanted to touch on a project that has been SLOWLY unfolding here at Jungle Jim’s Eastgate Beer and Wine Department, something that many of you who have been in recently have noticed:  the Jungle Experience Center.

Like all good ideas, there has a little bit of inspiration, a little bit of appropriation, and a touch of insanity, but suffice it to say, the JXC (going along with the airport stuff hanging on the walls, the airline seats and such, we went with an airport code acronym because, why not?) has been something germinating in my head for about 15 years.  Integrating technology to bring the world a little closer to our guests, it sort of expounds on the idea of video conference beer and wine tastings, flips it, and rubs some funk on it to give you a place that endeavors to bring all that is Jungle Jim’s International Market into one place.

The goal is relatively simple:  bring the world to our guests.  Whether it’s the aforementioned beer and wine tastings – where the makers can visit us via the Web from their breweries/wineries and our guests merely board the JXC right here and the world comes a little closer together for a few – or focused microfestivals that spend time on a particular place or theme and instant cultural immersion ensues, or an infinite number of small scale tastings/seminars/demonstrations can occur, coupling with corporate and community uses, the room is a conduit to all things explored and unexplored, a communal space we hope will bring us all a little closer together.

We are pretty close to opening, and we’ll of course have a calendar of events posted on our Jungle Jim’s website and our social media platforms.  The coolest part about this is I finally get to see this thing happening, and it’s all thanks to my boss, and the craziest, most amazing place I’ve ever got to work.

Stay tuned as we fire this place up soon!
