Discoveries at the Jungle Coffee Month: Bewley’s and Loumidis

Back to feed

Coffee has been around since the 9th or 10th century and is now the second most traded commodity in the world, just behind oil. The worldwide production of coffee is at 8.9 million tonnes a year with Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia being the top three producers. Even though there are only two types of coffee beans, Arabica and Robusta, each region and roasting technique brings out different, complex flavors. Jungle Jim’s International Market carries an endless variety of coffee from around the world. Join us this month as we feature a few of our favorites!

Bewley’s – Ireland

Bewleys has been in the hot beverage business since 1840. While their teas are probably their most famous offerings, their coffee is second to none in quality. Bewley’s first arrived in the United States in 1997.

We recommend their Irish cream coffee mix, which is super rich and creamy – you won’t want to put it down.

Did you know: There are two types of coffee beans: Arabica and Robusta. Seventy percent of coffee beans are Arabica. Although less popular, Robusta is slightly more bitter and has twice as much caffeine.

Loumidis – Greece

Loumidis’s humble beginnings came from a few brothers who borrowed money to open a small shop in Piraeus, Greece. They began expanding their small inventory as customers requested certain goods – coffee was among their most requested items. As their small empire grew, they began buying other coffee businesses growing into a sizeable company in their own right. Today, the business has grown beyond just coffee. They now offer baked goods, dairy, frozen goods, honey, juices, meats, oil and vinegar, pasta and many more foods.

This coffee is full bodied, rich and robust. If you are looking for a complex, full flavored coffee, look no further!
