Coffee has been around since the 9th or 10th century and is now the second most traded commodity in the world, just behind oil. The worldwide production of coffee is at 8.9 million tonnes a year with Brazil, Vietnam, and Indonesia being the top three producers. Even though there are only two types of coffee beans, Arabica and Robusta, each region and roasting technique brings out different, complex flavors. Jungle Jim’s International Market carries an endless variety of coffee from around the world. Join us this month as we feature a few of our favorites!
Cafe Bustelo – Cuba
Spanish native Gregorio Bustelo moved to Cuba over 80 years ago and fell in love with the coffee on the island. He got a job as a coffee roaster and his passion only grew. He and his wife saved up to buy a roaster of their own and sold coffee out of their house until 1931, when their coffee first landed in a store.
This coffee features a bold, bitter flavor when sipped black. It’s actually intended for “cafe con leche,” or drinks that incorporate milk, cream and sugar. |
