Discoveries at the Jungle – Tea Month!

Back to feed
Tea has an ancient and rich history that spans from the 3rd century AD and reaches across the globe. Tea originated in China, but it has traveled and morphed across borders since it’s beginnings. There are a plethora of teas available today, from all corners of the world, and Jungle Jim’s International Market carries an increasingly wide variety from all over. So let’s take a little time this month to talk about tea from all over the world that we offer right here in your own backyard!

Did you know? Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world after water. Turkey, Morocco, and Ireland are the world’s top consumers per capita.

Onno Tee – Onno tee originated in 1886  from East Frisia, Ostfriesland, in Northern Germany. They are herbal teas that feature fruity rosehip, traditional peppermint and soothing chamomile. They are also caffeine free.

Did you know? There are four major tea types: black, green, white, and oolong. Even though they all come from the same plant (Camellia Siensis), the differences in the types of tea come from how the leaves are treated.

Inca’s Herbs Yacon Tea – This tea is made from Peruvian Yacon Leaves and is very sweet. The Yacon is actually known as the Peruvian ground apple and has only recently made its way out of local markets. Inca’s Herbs is a small family company that started importing these leaves in 2010 to their Southern California home base. This tea is favored by diabetics and dieters because it is known to lower blood sugar, bad cholesterol, blood pressure, weight and boosts digestive health and the immune system.
