Recently Todd and I had a chance to check out the newest releases from Valkyrie Selections – the importing venture by the producers of California’s Banshee and Rickshaw wines.  Vintner Select wine mavens Danielle Redder and Lauren Wiethe dropped in to try us on some of their Spanish wines:

When it comes to consistency and quality, few wineries can be thought more reliable than Cline Cellars from California.  Recently, we got a visit from old friend Keith Morris, VP of National Sales for the brand, and Todd and I ran the gamut of their wares.

For those who don’t know Cline, this sustainably-farmed, family-owned winery has been operating since 1982, headed by winemaker Charlie Tsegeletos and assistant winemaker Tom Gendell.

  • Virginia Bakery Schnecken – Delicious, But Limited!

Not just another schnecken recipe… Though no longer open, the legacy of The Virginia Bakery of Cincinnati lives on through their recipes. For over 75 years, The Virginia Bakery created handmade baked goods, but gained notoriety for their take on one of the classics (and local favorites): schnecken.

Meaning “snail,” schnecken is a sweet, rolled baked good that falls somewhere between cake and pastry in texture, and resembles a cinnamon roll in flavor.

Saké.  This slightly mysterious and formidable beverage is often misunderstood to most American consumers.  The name itself springs to mind visions of Japanese Hibachi steak houses with carafés of hot, weird-beverages that give your insides a cozy place by the fire, but the subsequent drunk is excessively harsh.  Yet as I become more-and-more fascinated by this beverage, the more I come to understand how intricate, how pairable, how incredible it is.  And while my love affair is still gestating,
