  • Discoveries at the Jungle Oktoberfest Edition: Meica Jarred Sausages and Ritter Chocolate Bars

    Oktoberfest has a rich history dating back to 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Teresa of Sassonia-Hildburghausen. They invited all of the citizens of Munich to attend the celebration, which was held in the fields in front of the city gate. From that year on it became an annual celebration, which then evolved into the Oktoberfest that we know today.

    Now, Oktoberfest is celebrated around the world. Coincidentally, Cincinnati actually hosts the second largest Oktoberfest second only to Munich itself!

  • Brooklyn Cured, Old World Crafted – Bresaola at The Cheese Shop

    ​An excellent cut of dry cured beef top-round, this Bresaola is coated in porcini mushroom and black pepper to add an even deeper level of flavor that you don’t usually get with Bresaola.

  • Get Into The Groove with Throwback Candy & Toys from the 1960’s!

    ​If you’re feeling groovy, step back in time with me to the 1960’s. Lots of our favorite candies and toys came out in the 60’s, so let’s get started with a local favorite – the Marshmallow Cone.   This light and fluffy snack started production in 1936 by a Cincinnati tailor looking to make some extra money, but didn’t gain popularity until the 1960’s, under new leadership.     Brine… We’ve heard it referred to as “juice,” so we want to set the record straight and give you a little bit of info about that delicious liquid that makes your olives so tasty.

    The most simple explanation: the brine is the liquid that olives are preserved in, a liquid that is heavily saturated with salt. In the World of Olives, there are several different types.

  • Biery Cheese – New Cheese On the Block

    Biery Cheese has been making a great number of cheeses since the late 1920’s, right here in Louisville, Ohio, but now they’re making their Jungle Jim’s debut, offering quite a few new products at The Cheese Shop. 

    Not only did we bring in a new selection of bars including Cheddar, NY Cheddar, hot pepper, Colby, and Swiss, we now have a new and varied selection of shredded and sliced cheese to go along with them!

  • Back to the Candy Future – Get Nostalgic with Candy & Toys from the 50’s!

    ​We’re going to take a trip down memory lane and explore the candies of the 1950’s.

    From the 1950’s we have greats such as the Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles, Clark Bars, Oh Henry Candy Bars and NECCO Assorted Wafers. NECCO, which stands for New England Confectionary Company, is the oldest candy company in the U.S. They produce many of the candies from the 1950’s.
