Favorite Presidential Foods

Back to feed
Happy President’s Day! We figured to have a little fun with our blog post today and talk about some of the past President’s favorite foods. There may have only been 45 total Presidents of the United States, but the diversity of the food served in the White House is astonishing. Presidents and their families all have different tastes, and the White House staff has had to adjust to each new family coming into the house. Let’s take a look at what some President’s asked for while serving our country.
Ruchard Nixon: Yogurt – President Nixon had fresh yogurt flown in from California every day. He was also known to eat cottage cheese and fruit…with ketchup on it. Yes you read that correctly.

Gerald Ford: Ford was easy. He enjoyed pot roast, red cabbage and butter pecan ice cream for dessert.

Jimmy Carter: Southern comfort food – Jimmy was all about steak and corn bread. He was also a huge fan of nuts since he used to be a peanut farmer.

George H.W. Bush: Bush Sr. was the hot sauce master. He pretty much put it on anything and everything he could get his hands on.

Barack Obama: Obama was a chili man at heart, but the first family ate healthy most of the time. Most of what ended up on their table was grown right in the White House garden.

Bill Clinton: A former White House chef said Clinton had a scary appetite and could eat 5 or 6 pork chops in one sitting. He also used to jog to McDonald’s regularly.

Harry S. Truman: Fully, well done, burnt steak. Hey… not everyone eats steak the right way.

Thomas Jefferson: Jefferson was a wine connoisseur, which was a problem. He drank about four glasses a day and ran up his wine bill to $10,855.90 over his 8 year presidency. If you calculate for inflation, that’s over $200,000!

Ronald Reagan: If any President had a sweet tooth, it was Ronald Reagan. His favorite food was licorice jelly beans, but he also loved pumpkin and pecan pie, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, and Nancy Reagan’s fudge brownies.

John F. Kennedy: President Kennedy stayed true to his roots with clam chowder. He would frequent a Boston oyster house many times while in office to get a bowl.

Abraham Lincoln: Gingerbread Men were a childhood favorite of Lincoln’s so he carried his taste for them along with him to the White House.

Franklin D. Roosevelt: FDR loved grilled cheese sandwiches. They were his most ordered food while in the White House.

Lyndon B. Johnson: Fresca – He loved it so much that they installed a soda fountain in the Oval Office. He also enjoyed tapioca pudding and sweet potatoes with toasted marshmallows on top.

If you were the President, what would you eat every day?
